Minimalism Phase 1

Image
Minimalism is a picture with very little detail but is still able to convey an idea. I chose these because even though they are extremely simple, you can still understand what everything is and whats going on. The colors and editing of these images is done very well too.

`The Last Girl

My viewpoint changed because I thought an image was of a man climbing on a girls face. In a way, that is still the case but he's not physically photoshopped onto her face and climbing it. He's installing a gigantic piece of art and needs to climb up it. The picture itself is of a young girl and only her hair and head is visible and it fills the page. The image is in the process of being installed onto a huge wall on a building in Ireland. There is a man, who is extremely tiny in comparison to the giant picture, on a cord which is hopefully also holding him with a harness. He must be climbing it to help install it. They must have made it so big as to make sure people never forget her picture. It seems to be in a city but not in the middle of it. It looks to be in a run down part because there is graffiti on the upper parts of the building the girls image is on. The expression on the girls face seems rather blank or with barely any emotion. The title might be referencing to some...

Gottfried Helnwein Questions

The image shows a close up of a girl's face to where you can see all the tiny details of it. It also shows a small man hiking up her face as if it were a mountain and he has made it to about the top of the bridge of her nose. This is an artistic image that shows something pretty surreal and it could not happen in the real world. That being said, the image is photoshopped. The photographers intent was to create an image that looks realistic but also different and blurs the lines of reality. The huge difference in scale adds to my interpretation because they either wanted the woman to be giant or the man to just be abnormally tiny and that contributes to blurring the lines of reality.

What is the general premise of the video? The general premise of the video is to show what our society is or will become in the near future. Is the video effective in conveying it's intended message? The video is very clear in conveying its message. It's very straightforward. Do you feel that this is more of a cautionary story (a warning) or more of an examination of our current social situation? Why? I think it's both because it's showing how society is now as well as it is warning us how it could get worse.

7 Photographs

Guy Punching Himself in the Face Photo The person seems as if he is punching his own face so hard, that its actually going in like a cartoon. The photographer expresses the force being used in the punch by the mans face basically imploding from the punch. The Clothesline Photo This photo seems very strange because the woman is hanging clothes on electrical lines to dry. In the picture you can see her climbing a tall ladder to reach the electrical lines. The photographer uses the tall ladder and electrical lines to exaggerate the image as well as make a very different picture. Lake Painting Photo  The image is a bit dark because of cloudy skies and the darker water that is also reflection the clouds. The rocks and land around the man is dark as well. The viewer may be more drawn to the man because he himself is not totally there because he isn't drawn out all the way and he still has line marks for his head. The subject of his painting is very far away as well which confused me...

I'm sorry Mr. Klein, I wasn't able to email myself all of my pictures but I will be able to post them on Monday so I can do the photo tile thing from the Mac like your assignment asks me to do. :)

Photography Questions

Photography Questions- TEDTalk 1) What question does Erik pose to the audience?        "I'm here to share my photography. Or is it photography?" 2) What was Erik’s first real passion?       Photography and drawing. He got his first camera when he was 15. 3) What conception of photography did Erik previously hold?       He thought that photography was just about being in the right place at the right time. 4) How did this inspire him?     It inspired hime because in the pictures he takes, you only need a brief moment to figure something different in the picture. He wanted to have it still be realistic but stretch the reality of it.  5) What “common goal” do Erik’s photos have?        He tries to erase the border between normal and realistic and illusions and twists in reality. 6) Define realism as used in this context.        Photo realism- A picture t...
